|The first dragons appeared in 1922 and were built by the Ordnance factory at Woowich. They were the beginnings of the mechanisation of the Royal
Artillery and were developed for use as gun tractors, which were able to carry an artillery detachment and ammunition. The name derived from their
function - 'drag-gun'.
A variety of chassis were used to produce these vehicles including the Vickers Medium tank, Light tank mark II and the six-tonner.
